Readers at this meeting

  • Sue : read the B storyline of “A Cross Time”
  • Chris: read an excerpt from “Hierarchy” in which Commander Eclipse exposes (and eats) a Zymorgg spy.
  • Mike: read Part 4 of 4 from “Gate Patrol.” Inkara (a gryphon) and Breeta (a human) are present as the Ubera Gate opens after centuries of inactivity, releasing a plague of gigantic insects. Inkara admits she’d prefer an army of one-eyed Arimaspians [the arch-enemies of gryphons] to the rush of ravenous invertebrates. She realizes that Breeta’s Augury spell, plus the severed head of one of the monster insects, plus the erratic power of the Gate, opened a portal to the insect world. Maybe repeating the spell with a body part of an Arimaspi would do something similar — and the gryphon wears a battle trophy at her breast, the dry fingers of an Arimaspi warrior on a necklace. It sounds ridiculous, but “Why not? We will be dead in a few minutes anyway.” Incredibly, the spell does work again — but have the Gate Patrolers summoned allies or more enemies?
  • Sean: read “The World Eater” – Chapter 3. After experiencing the tragic loss of his Samurai master, Ichiro Koriyama has given up hope of saving a world threatened by a mysterious enemy known only as the Kaimetsu. On his journey back to ensure his family’s safety, Ichiro is afflicted by a strange illness that leaves him dull of mind and unable to see colors. The affliction he calls the Illness also affects animals, even turning typically docile Katarumen, who are mystical hybrids, into violent and bloodthirsty beasts. Ichiro escapes an attack by the wild Katarumen and finds himself in a tranquil village, where he meets a wise old woman named Azumi. After getting to know her over a meal and offer of hospitality, the Katarumen overrun the village, forcing Ichiro to flee following Azumi’s untimely death. Amidst the chaos, Ichiro learns a terrible truth: the enemy hides in plain sight.

May meeting will be at the Ray residence unless otherwise announced.
