The Sinors will host this year’s year’s holiday party on Saturday, December 14. We will start festivities at 6PM. See below for directions. As always, spouses and guests are welcome to attend.
Food
Our hosts will provide the main course for a light supper. As always, feel free to bring–or not!–your own contribution to the feast. The president will bake a cake (of course), bring Sterzings Potato chips (courtesy of the president’s former spouse), and will likely bring chicken wings or some other savory contribution.
Story Fragments
It’s our tradition that we each prepare a story or story fragment of not more than 1000 words. The theme for the stories this year is It’s the ghostliest time of the year. The story should include the words ethereal, numinous, and pellucid.
You should print out your story, eliminating any identifying information, and place it in an unmarked, 8.5×11 envelope. If you don’t have an 8.5×11 envelope handy, we’ll have some available the night of the party. At the party, a member or members will read the stories, and everyone will guess the author. The person with the most correct guesses gets a door prize.
To make it easier to organize your guesses the night of the party, the president will prepare “guess sheets” with the titles of your stories pre-printed on the sheet. In order to do this, he’ll need to know the title of your story. Use this form to anonymously send the title of your story to the president. Please use the form to send the title only once and at no later than December 13th, the day before the party. DO NOT email the President with the title of your story–that’s not anonymous!
Secret Santa Yankee Swap
We also traditionally have a secret Santa gift exchange, in which each who wishes to participate brings a wrapped gift, usually inspired by our genres, costing $10 or less.
Our exchange involves something called a “Yankee swap.” Each person bringing a gift picks a number from a bowl. The person who draws “one” picks a gift other than their own and opens it. The person who draws “two” picks another gift, and opens it. But the second person can keep that gift or swap it with gift one. The third person does the same, but can swap with either of the prior two gifts. The higher your number, the more gifts you have to choose from!
Participation in the gift exchange is not required to attend the party. Couples may bring one gift each, or may participate as a couple with one shared gift and one shared draw. Gifts are often related to our genres–SciFi, Horror, or Fantasy–but anything is fine. If you’re handy with crafts, that would make an awesome gift to bring. Again, if you participate the value of your gift should not exceed $10.
